The name “Nickelback” came from when Mike Kroeger (Chad’s brother and bass player in Nickelback), worked at a Starbucks and coffee was $1.95 and every one always gave $2.00 so he would say “You want your nickel back?”.
Chad Kroeger was born on november 15 1973 in Hanna, Alberta.
Way back Nickelback were called the “Brick”.
Chad’s middle name is Robert.
The guys from Nickelback are from a small town called Hanna Alberta Canada.
Chad wrote “How you remind me” in 15 minutes.
The song ‘Leader of men” is about Chad saving one of his friends life. The line about jumping off a cliff to save a girl..taht really happened. “Some of my friends were cliff diving and one of them “Kathy” was getting swept downstream and couldn’t stay afloat she wasn’t a strong swimmer. So I jumped in, swam down to her and pulled her to shore” recalls Chad on MTV.com
Some of Chad’s influences include the Beatles, Credence Clearwater, Revival, Metallica, Rage against the machine and Soul Coughing.
Ryan Peake uses 3 guitars while on stage a ‘57′ Telecaster, a ‘99′ Telecaster and a ‘99′ Les Paul Custom. He only uses Mesa Boogie amps.
Chad plays a Paul Reed Smith guitar.
In 2002, ‘How you remind me’ was played every 3.2 minutes in the U.S.A.! WOW
Chad named his record company, 604 Records after his telephone number area code (Vancouver, B.C).
Their second cd “Curbs” was named after a good friend Curby who dies by sneeking out of the house to go see his girlfriend. ON his way to her he got into a car accident and died so did the other person in the other car wich was his girlfriend.
With over 17 million records sold worldwide, the band have just released their fourth major album “All the right reasons” in October 4th.
The band’s 2003 release “The long road” is certified 4x platinum in the Canada, and has sold more then 5 million copies around the globe.
2001’s Silver Side Up, spawned three No.1 hit singles and achieved multi-platinum status worldwide and the breakout hit single “How you remind me” garnered the coveted status as the “No.1 most played song of 2002″ across all formats according to Billboard Monitor.
